Burnings

“A great fire burns within me, but no one stops to warm themselves at it, and
passers-by only see a wisp of smoke.”

Part I. Literary Arts

“But how could you live and have no story to tell?”

Part II. Visual Arts

"I would like to paint the way a bird sings."

Why Burnings?

PASSION

To burn inevitably means to act—we believe it is passion that compels action. In this space, we want to celebrate art as action.

PURPOSE
We burn because of wonder and because of wounds. Our world of art is a crafted intermingling of beauty and violence, peace and tragedy, and an attempt to walk the complex line between.

PERSONAL
Being burnt leaves scars that are unique to a memory and the flicker of its truth. Our art, ignited, is a flame that is no one else's but our own.

PERDURING
To burn once is but a spark, to burn continually our legacy. Our hope is that the embers of our work will catch onto the hearts of others and kindle a lasting, deepening love for the arts.

Our logo was crafted to amalgamate the meaning behind our name, Burnings

The silhouette of a feather or quill represents the written word. It is passion, poised and sharp, to express the artistic burden within our human experience.

The splattered edges testify to unpolished beginnings—the first drop of chemical on film, the drips and flicks of paint, the impression of a craft. It is the potential to leave enduring marks, everywhere.

And the B-shaped flame, of course, alludes to the title of Burnings itself.
